Toronto's Tradition Since 1982

For four decades, the Metro Bowl has stood as the pinnacle of high school football in the Greater Toronto Area. The tradition began in 1982 with a historic clash between St. Michael’s College and Woburn Collegiate, where the St. Michael’s Kerry Blues secured a 13-0 victory to become the inaugural champions. This game laid the foundation for a legacy of intense competition and celebrated rivalries that would span decades.

The championship has evolved over the years, notably in 2015 when the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) reinstated it as part of a provincial bowl game series. Now, in a significant homecoming, the 40th edition of the Metro Bowl is back in Toronto under the stewardship of Football Toronto.

This modern iteration crowns the champion from a wide pool of talent across the TDSSAA, TDCAA, ROPSSAA, and LOSSAA leagues.

Reflecting its renewed vision, the Metro Bowl is now more than a single championship game. The event has expanded into a larger tournament celebration, featuring additional bowl games to showcase a broader range of teams and culminating in an all-star game. This expanded format not only intensifies the competition for the historic title but also fosters a greater sense of community and athletic excellence across the regions.
